Overview

The Whistler Farmers’ Market provides ad-hoc funding to individuals, groups and organisations that work to strengthen local food security and agriculture, and that are aligned with the goals and mandate of the Whistler Farmers’ Market.

The Whistler Farmers’ Market is a registered non-profit society dedicated to the promotion of regionally produced foods, crafts and services. We strengthen local food systems by creating vibrant and welcoming markets that build community, feed people, and support small farms and producers.

Average grants range from $500 to $1,500 depending on the volume and scope of applications received.


Eligibility

  • Who: Applicants must be local to Whistler or surrounding area, e.g. Squamish, Pemberton, Lillooet. Priority is given to established not-for-profit organisations and individuals, but unincorporated groups may apply.

  • Use of funds: WFM will provide up to $1,500 for approved projects and initiatives that seek to enhance food security, sovereignty and literacy; and/or strengthen local agriculture. Individuals pursuing education in these areas may also apply to receive a contribution towards tuition fees. Funding is not available for: general operating expenses; deficits; capital or equipment purchases.

  • Examples of projects and activities: Food security is concerned with the protection and distribution of existing food systems. Examples of food literacy could be education/workshops that focus on preparing, preserving, purchasing, growing, and storing food. Food Sovereignty is the right of peoples to healthy and culturally appropriate food produced through ecologically sound and sustainable methods, and their right to define their own food and agriculture systems.


Process

Complete all fields below to have your application considered.

Applications may be submitted at any time, which will be assessed by a committee of market management and Board Directors. Annual funds available for grants will vary year to year.

Applicants will receive notification of the status of their application within 6 weeks of applying.

After a grant has been approved:

  • Successful applicants must submit an invoice directly to the Whistler Farmers’ Market for the approved funding amount.

  • Projects, initiatives and education must be carried out within 12 months of the funding being awarded.

  • Successful recipients must complete a final report prior to submitting any future applications.

Expectations of grant recipients:

  • Approval from WFM to any alterations to the project scope

  • Proper fiscal management

  • Thorough and well-planned project evaluation

  • Final report submitted within 12 months of the funding being issued

  • Where appropriate, public recognition of support provided by WFM
